Besides Marlborough and Stewart Island there are some other excellent dive destinations in New Zealand's South Island. Diving at Christchurch (Canterbury) and near Dunedin (Otago) can provide for some rewarding marine encounters. You can book dolphin tours at Kaikoura or visit one of the southern Sounds in Fiordland such as Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound, Breakfree Sound or Dusky Sound.

The south of New Zealand also offers some excellent tracks such as Abel Tasman Track, Kepler Track and the Mueller Hut track with views of Mount Cook, New Zealand's highest mountain at 3754m. Queenstown is the city where many tourists book a bungee jump tour or other mind blowing Kiwi activities. You can do some skiing, kayaking and visit the glaciers Fox and Franz Josef. It is a country well adapted to tourism so booking tours and finding operators is not hard at all. Nightlife, restaurants, bars, pubs, clubs but also cheap hostels and luxury star rated hotels can booked year around.

Diving in the south is cold and most divers wear thick wetsuits or dry suits as temperatures can drop to eight degrees in winter up to 18 degrees in summer. Many different species of game fish and silver blue colored schools of fish are regularly spotted. But also sea lions, fur seals, yellow eyed penguins, dolphins and even whale sharks are occasionally met by divers. Kelp forest, sea tulips, sponges, algae and anemones are the most common organisms found in these cold waters. Enjoy this wonderful underwater world at a place which is still quiet and unspoiled.
